GIF integration – comments only, exactly where it belongs
In v1.9.3, Giphy GIFs are integrated exclusively into the comment section. This allows readers to express emotions more naturally when discussing chapters, respond quickly without long text replies, and keep conversations lively without disrupting the reading flow.
Most importantly, the system does not introduce any new formatting or syntax. When a GIF is selected, Init Manga simply inserts the direct .gif URL from Giphy. The theme’s existing GIF auto-rendering mechanism handles the display automatically.
Familiar GIF picker interface, no learning curve

The GIF picker in v1.9.3 is built using the same UX approach as the Sticker picker. It opens as a compact dropdown attached to the comment input, supports real-time keyword search, and displays GIFs in a clean grid layout.
As a result, users do not need to learn anything new. The interaction feels natural, immediate, and unobtrusive.
Active only when a Giphy API key is configured
Init Manga v1.9.3 follows a strict “load only when needed” principle. All GIF picker assets and requests to Giphy are:
- Loaded only when the administrator has configured a valid Giphy API Key
- Completely skipped when no API key is present
- Guaranteed to have zero impact on users and system performance when disabled
This ensures the theme remains lightweight, clean, and secure even if the GIF feature is never used.
How to obtain a Giphy API key
Getting a Giphy API key is straightforward and free for standard usage. Simply follow these steps:
- Visit the developer portal of Giphy
- Sign in using your Facebook or GitHub account
- Create a new application and choose the API option
- Copy the generated API key

Then paste the API key into Integrations → Giphy API Key in the Init Manga settings page. Save the settings, and the GIF picker will automatically appear in the comment area.
Lightweight, focused, and true to Init Manga
Init Manga v1.9.3 does not attempt to overload the system with unnecessary features. Instead, it enhances exactly one key interaction point: improving how readers communicate beneath each chapter.
No new database tables, no REST endpoints, no SEO or performance impact—just a simple, expressive upgrade delivered exactly where it matters.
