Introducing Chapter Cover Display and User Tagging in Comments and Chat in Init Manga v1.2.5 and v1.2.6

As Init Manga continues to evolve, our primary focus remains on enhancing the reading experience and fostering user interaction. The recent updates — v1.2.5 and v1.2.6 — don’t introduce groundbreaking changes, but they bring meaningful improvements that make the platform more intuitive and community-friendly.

Introducing Chapter Cover Display and User Tagging in Comments and Chat in Init Manga v1.2.5 and v1.2.6

Specifically, version 1.2.5 focuses on improving the chapter list interface by allowing chapter cover images to be displayed.

Meanwhile, version 1.2.6 introduces the ability to tag users in both comments and the community chat. These are practical features that make the platform smoother and more user-friendly.

Chapter Cover Display – Visualizing the Chapter List (v1.2.5)

The chapter list is a section readers interact with frequently. However, in the past, it was mostly text-based, lacking visual support.

With the 1.2.5 update, Init Manga allows a representative cover image for each chapter. A small change that significantly boosts visual clarity and reader appeal.

The system automatically extracts the first valid image from the chapter content, reducing manual effort for authors.

This feature can be enabled/disabled in the theme settings and applies only to titles categorized under the Comic genre. This ensures the layout remains appropriate and doesn’t mistakenly apply to text-heavy works like Light Novels.

On the technical side, cover images are optimized with:

  • Lazy loading
  • WebP format
  • Cloudflare caching

These ensure fast loading speeds, even for long chapter lists.

The interface is also adapted to display gracefully with or without images, maintaining a clean and readable layout.

In addition, the system supports manual chapter cover selection for better content control.

Content creators can force a specific image to be used as the chapter cover by placing a ||| <img> marker right before the desired image tag in the chapter content.

When this marker is present, the system will prioritize the manually marked image over the default automatic detection.

User Tagging – Boosting Community Engagement (v1.2.6)

User interaction is a core aspect of modern content platforms.

With version 1.2.6, Init Manga officially supports user tagging in:

  • WordPress comments
  • Community chat (powered by Init Chat Engine)

Users simply type @username to trigger real-time search suggestions.

The suggestion list highlights top users (based on EXP) and excludes the current user to avoid self-tagging.

The UI supports both:

  • Keyboard and mouse interactions
  • Fast and intuitive selection

Each comment or message can tag up to 5 users.

Tagged users receive a direct notification in their inbox, linking to the context where they were mentioned. This helps increase engagement and keeps conversations active and responsive.

For presentation, the system converts tag syntax into reader-friendly formatting:

  • In comments: the tagged name appears in bold
  • In chat: it is highlighted using *Name*

Additionally, tag syntax is cleaned from notification content to keep it readable and easy to understand.

This feature is fully integrated with the plugin’s i18n system, supporting multiple languages (including Vietnamese), and requires no complex setup.

Conclusion

Versions 1.2.5 and 1.2.6 don’t introduce major architectural changes but reflect a strong focus on enhancing user experience.

  • The chapter cover display brings visual clarity and appeal to the reading list.
  • The user tagging system promotes a more connected and structured community environment.

As users increasingly expect smooth, personalized, and interactive experiences, these seemingly small updates are essential to keep Init Manga a modern, user-friendly, and scalable platform for the future.
